This week's review :
Delta Luv Convertible Crib
It can be tough to find just the right crib. There are so many things to consider: does it match your decor? Is it sturdy? Easy to use? Easy to put together? The right price? When I was expecting my son, Sam, finding the right crib became almost an obsession. The Delta Luv convertible crib has met all of my expectations and more.
I wasn't sure exactly how I wanted to use my crib, so I wanted one that had ultimate flexibility. If I was going to use it as a regular, stand-alone crib, I wanted sides that went up and down easily, but not so easily that my preschooler could work the levers. I wanted both sides to go up and down, so that I could position the crib on either side of the room. I also wanted a crib that could be converted into a daybed or toddler bed, because I wanted to have the option of removing a side from the crib and clamping it to my bed so that I could breastfeed without getting out of bed. I also wanted a safe crib, with regulation slat openings and a firm mattress support. Finally, I wanted all of these features at the lowest price possible. It was a tall order, and I walked away from at least 50 cribs before I found the Delta Luv.
The first thing I noticed about the Delta Luv was that it was pretty. It has simple styling and a washable white paint job. It's not so fussy that it would outclass the rest of my house. It also had a sturdy wooden mattress base, where many of the other lower-priced cribs had springs that I didn't think would be safe or promote good chiropractic development. I would be able to raise and lower both sides, and could choose whether to install both sides or leave one off so that I could clamp the crib to my bed (although this is not a manufacturer-suggested use). The Delta Luv also had five mattress adjustment heights, which I thought would be plenty.
When I got the Delta Luv home, I was delighted by how easy it was to set up. It took my husband and me less than 15 minutes to get the pieces out of the box and put together. It's a breeze to raise and lower the mattress for different ages, and the crib is sturdy enough that my daughter, four at the time, could try it out without any danger of the crib falling apart or breaking.
Two years later, I'm still happy with the Delta Luv crib. We've moved it, adjusted it, gotten it dirty and washed it, hidden Christmas presents under it, and most of all, put our precious son to sleep in it countless times. Now that he's no longer a baby, we can lower the mattress to the "toddler bed" level, and make his transition from crib to bed a little smoother. Although it took me many tries to find a great crib at a reasonable price, the Delta Luv has really made me happy.
